Do-It-Yourself Rainbow Kippah
black thread; sewing machine (with zig-zag stitch); 6 pieces of felt material at least 4" x 4" each in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple; 3" Velcro© adhesive tape (optional)

Step One:
Use the pattern in figure 1 as a template for making six identical crest-shaped pieces of felt (one in each of the six rainbow colours)

Step Two:
Place the blue piece upon the green piece as shown in figure 2.

Step Three:
Sew the two pieces together, from Point A to Point B, using a plain stitch. Align the edge of the felt with the outside of the sewing machine's presser foot to make the seam approximately 1/4 inch from the edge.

Step Four:
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the remaining colours; purple, red, orange, and then yellow. Ending with a seam to join the green and yellow pieces together.

Step Five:
Using a zig-zag stitch, sew over top of the seams (see figure 5). Repeat until all seams have been covered with a zig-zag stitch. This step will flatten the seam edges and give the kippah its curved shape.

Step Six: (Optional)
Place three 1" strips of Velcro© tape (the stiff part) on the underside of the kippah (but not too close to the edge or it may show). This will hold the kippah in place on all but the shortest of buzz cuts.
