The COVID-19 pandemic has forced educators to adapt to new ways of teaching with very little support. As the school year begins, the questions of how to deliver content and provide needed social and emotional growth support are on everyone’s minds. Join us for a webinar to learn about ways to show support for LGBTQ+ students and create an environment where all students feel they belong.
About the Facilitators
Erik Adamian is the Associate Director of Education at One Institute. In collaboration with educational organizations and teachers, Erik develops LGBTQ history programing and resources for K-12 students and teachers, such as Professional Learning Symposia for educators and a Youth Ambassadors for Queer History Program. He has presented at the NCSS and CCSS Annual Conferences, and Teaching History Conference. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in English and Civic Engagement.
Rick Oculto is the Education Director at Our Family Coalition and collaborates with educators and school administrators in California to implement LGBTQ+ inclusive practices to create safe and inclusive climates for youth and families of diverse backgrounds. Rick provides training and support focusing on 1) the recognition and celebration of all families, 2) challenging gender stereotypes, and 3) addressing bullying and harassment. He educates on legal responsibilities and protections, methods of fostering welcoming environments, and provides templates for inclusive curriculum for both the classroom and at home. He has recently spearheaded the efforts in California to implement LGBTQ+ inclusive history in schools from elementary through high school. Rick has been working professionally on queer liberation since 2001 and has trained thousands of students, educators, mental health professionals, service providers, and community members over the years.”If we are to truly engage in doing good then we must do what is necessary rather than just what is easy.”
